HISTORY OF PEDIATRIC RADIOLOGY DEPARTMENT OF MEDICAL UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW (PART II)
The article presents the history of the Department of Pediatric Radiology of the Medical University of Warsaw in the years 1975–2015, which was situated in the Children’s Public Clinical Hospital at Marszałkowska 24 street (corner of Litewska street). Until now, two extensive studies of the history of the Department have been published. The first study, rich in priceless information, is the text of professor Andrzej Marciński, which has been published several times in years 1991–2000. The article to the large extent is supported by the above study enlarging presented over there subjects, particularly including subjects, which took part after its creation. The second study is the text of the author’s article, published in 2023 in Archives of the History and Philosophy of Medicine (vol. 86), which describes the history of the Department until 1975. Because the activity of the Department was always closely tied, more or less formal, with the activity of Radiology Department of Hospital at Działdowska 1 street, also the outline of it’s history has been presented. The author used mainly a few publications of the history of the Department of Pediatric Radiology and materials from the Archives of the Medical University of Warsaw. He enriched the whole with an extensive collection of memories of the employees of the Department and people associated with it in various ways. The forty years history of the Department has been discussed in detail, since 1975 when professor Ksawery Rowiński retired and his duties took over Andrzej Marciński, till the closure of hospitals at Marszałkowska and Działdowska streets in 2015 and removal them to the new headquarters at Żwirki i Wigury street. This study therefore presents a chronological account of the Department's subsequent history under the successive leadership of Prof. Marciński (1975–2008) and Dr Brzewski (2008– 2015). The particularly extensive part of the text is devoted to the people who worked in the Department, not only doctors – the work of radiographers and the changes that its specificity has undergone over the decades. The article does not take under consideration the history of Vascular Interventional Radiology Lab, since this was described in the mentioned author’s text, published in 2023.
