That same year, the new owners popularly known as Vincentians, lead by their first editor Father José Joaquim Góral, renamed journal to Lud, who also led to radical changes in the paper’s editorial line and tended to favour ecclesiastical conservatism (Malczewski, 2008: 217). During the period from 1930 to 1938, the newspaper contained information relevant for their Motherland, as they help to strengthen the feeling of belonging to the same ethnicity, as well as information related to Brazil, encouraging them to integrate in the host society. Indisputably, the context at the time in question, from the global economic crisis to the nationalization campaign of Getúlio Vargas, affects the discourse of Vincentians – not only their view of the Other, but also the image of their nationality. Therefore, the purpose of our work is to present and analyse the hetero image of Brazilian society characterized by ethnic diversity, according to the journal Lud in a special period between 1930 and 1938, taking into consideration the auto-image of Poles.
ER -
