Abstract

TRANSLATORS’ VOICES

This section presents three short texts by outstanding contemporary Polish translators. Jolanta Kozak returns to some tenets of her 2009 monograph on literary translation as metaphor so as to restate the importance of loyalty toward the author and of trusting in the source text as a repository of meanings. Krzysztof Bartnicki, taking a peculiar text-bound challenge as a starting point, ponders on various, also extratextual, constraints which govern a translator’s work. René Koelblen reflects on the advantages of translating in a tandem, drawing on his experience of collaboration with Stanisław Waszak, including their rendition of Perec’s lipogrammatic novel.
