The Borders of Europe and the Borders of the European Union
The relationship between Europe and geography is extremely complicated. In consequence, one can distinguish many senses of “Europe”. Some of them are here identified and put in a historical perspective. This perspective might be helpful in present day discussions concerning the scope and limits of the European integration. Another perspective is, however, also utterly important: the global commitments that European Union has to accept follow not only from the European past, but also from the basic European values and cultural features.
