Abstract

The Siddhāntakaumudī of Bhaṭṭoji Dīkṣita and the kaumudīs of Varadarāja were normally used as primers to introduce the Indian students to the vyākaraṇa science. Nevertheless, as times passed, Sanskrit became less practiced, and these grammatical works began to be considered as too difficult. For this reason, new handbooks have been created during the 20th century, both in other vernacular languages—such as in Hindī —and in a simpler contemporary Sanskrit, including the Laghupāṇinīyam by Rājarājavarma.
