General Principles

All articles submitted for publication in Brewery Studies are evaluated for originality, merit, ethical standards and relevance. The editors and editorial staff are committed to the highest standards of publication ethics, based on the principles recommended by the international organization Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), as well as the principles of the Code of Conduct for Journal Editors.

To prevent ghostwriting and guest authorship, the editorial staff requires that the input of each author be disclosed, in particular the authorship of the concept, assumptions, methods and relevant passages. The editorial staff must also be informed of the sources from which the publication has been financed. Since ghostwriting and guest authorship are manifestations of the lack of scholarly diligence, the authors of articles are requested to submit statements to the editorial staff concerning the professional and financial input of entities which have contributed to the publication.

The author declares that he or she has full copyright to the work, and such copyright it is not limited to the extent applicable to this declaration, that the article is an original work and that it does not infringe any third-party rights.

Duties of Editors

Editors, Editorial Board, and editorial staff are monitoring the ethical standards of scientific publications and takes all possible measures against any publication malpractices.

Submitted manuscripts are evaluated for their academic merit (intellectual content, originality, study’s validity clarity) and its relevance to the journal’s scope, without regard to the author’s race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religious beliefs, citizenship, political philosophy or institutional affiliation. The decision to edit and publish is not determined by the policies of governments or any other agencies outside of the journal itself. The Editor-in-Chief has full authority over the entire editorial content of the journal and the timing of publication of that content.

The editor is responsible for deciding which of the submitted articles should or should not be published. The decision to accept or reject a paper for publication is based on its importance, originality, clarity, and its relevance to the scope of the journal. Editors must ensure a fair blind peer-review of the submitted articles for publication. They will strive to prevent any potential conflict of interests between the author and editorial and review personnel.

Duties of Reviewers

All research, overview and monograph studies are reviewed anonymously by 2 reviewers. Reviewers should not undertake to evaluate papers if there is a conflict of interest due to competition, collaboration or other relationships with any of the authors, companies or institutions involved in writing the paper. Duplicate reviews help the editor make decisions about an article, and may also help authors improve their manuscript. Any selected reviewer who feels incompetent to evaluate the research presented in the manuscript, or knows that it will not be possible to prepare a review in the allotted time, should notify the editor and withdraw from the review process. The authors will receive the review together with a request to follow the reviewers' recommendations, apply corrections or make suggested edits. The entire manuscript received for review should be treated as a confidential document. It must not be shown to or discussed with anyone except those authorized by the publisher. The editorial staff reserve the right to make stylistic correction and edits. The author will receive the text with corrections for approval prior to its submission for print. The editorial staff reserves the right to return non-compliant texts to their authors with a request for making necessary changes and corrections.

Duties of the Publisher

The publisher, together with the editors, shall take reasonable steps to identify and prevent the publication of papers where research misconduct has occurred, and under no circumstances encourage such misconduct or knowingly allow such misconduct to take place.
