Abstract

This article examines the interpretation of A 1.3.37 in light of an apparent irregularity in the Kirātārjunīya, a major epic poem in Sanskrit. It traces how commentators sought to reconcile the grammatical rule with the poetic usage, often by restricting the scope of the sūtra rather than treating the verse as anomalous. The case study illustrates how the interaction between grammatical description and literary practice shaped the interpretative history of a Pāṇinian rule.
