Studia Iberica 2027

Special issue: Between the analogue and the digital. 50 years of Hispanic studies in Krakow

The editorial board of Studia Iberica is pleased to announce the preparation of a special issue to be published in 2027, which will bring together a selection of the papers presented at the international symposium ‘Between the analogue and the digital. 50 years of Hispanic studies in Krakow’, held on 5 and 6 December 2025 at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.

Organised to mark the fiftieth anniversary of Hispanic Studies in Kraków, the symposium brought together researchers from various academic institutions interested in the historical evolution, current state and future prospects of Hispanic Studies in Poland, Central and Eastern Europe, as well as its international dimension.

The volume will aim to reflect the thematic and methodological diversity of the debates that took place during the event. Papers addressing issues related to the following areas will be selected through a peer-review process:

  • the history and development of Polish Hispanic Studies;
  • contemporary Hispanic literary studies;
  • the reception of Spanish-language literature;
  • literary and specialised translation;
  • the challenges posed by artificial intelligence for translation, linguistics and humanities research;
  • linguistic studies and new methodologies of analysis;
  • minority or minoritised languages in the digital era;
  • foreign language teaching and methodological innovations;
  • interculturality, mediation and contemporary language education;
  • the application of digital technologies in the teaching of languages, literatures and cultures.

Symposium participants who submit proposals for contributions to the volume will receive detailed information on the editorial timetable, formal requirements and the evaluation process.

With this special issue, Studia Iberica aims to document the reflections sparked by fifty years of Hispanic studies in Kraków and to contribute to the debate on the challenges and opportunities currently facing Hispanic studies as they navigate the transition from the analogue to the digital era.
