EINE STUNDE KATALANISCH/UNA ESTONA DE CATALÀ: INTERCOMPREHENSION APPLIED TO THE TEACHING OF CATALAN IN THE GERMAN UNIVERSITY
This article aims to present the dialogues and synergies that can be established between the teaching of Catalan and the Intercomprehension (IC) between related languages. In this way, we insert our argument into the projects and reflections that IC, as a theoretical and methodological approach, has received in recent years in the Catalan language territories. From this perspective, we discuss the functions that the teacher and the student assume in order to achieve knowledge and skills in a continuous process of construction. Then, we pay attention to the inspection of the structural advantages that Catalan offers to build ‘pan-Romance’ knowledge due to the central position it occupies within the Romance continuum, which increases the IC possibilities for speakers and students of other Romance languages. Therefore, we are interested in knowing how these resources can be mobilized, from a teaching point of view, through the didactic materials used in class. At this point, the experience of a Catalan course taught to German students at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität will provide the empirical bases and examples that will illustrate our exposition. Finally, we hope to demonstrate that IC can provide tools for teaching, promoting and valuing Catalan not only among Catalan speakers’ communities but also internationally.
