Abstrakt

The Solidarity-Based Projects of Democratization of the System of Rulership and the Opinions and Attitudes of the Society
The article presents the concepts whose purpose was to democratize the exercise of power in Poland, put forward within the framework of NSZZ „Solidarność” in the years 1980-1981, and the attitudes and opinions which were present in the awareness of the Polish society in reference to these concepts. The starting point had to do with the statement that the association intended to realize the democratic principles, both in reference to the entire political system and also to the relations within the association itself. The basic goal was obviously to realize the principle of the division of power. Two concepts were put forward in this field – the establishment of a self-government system and the introduction of parliamentary democracy. An attempt was made to answer the question about the extent to which the opinions of the society were consistent with the concepts of “Solidarity”, and to what extent one may claim that such opinions were dysfunctional in reference to those concepts. The conclusion which may be drawn and which is an answer to a question which is thus formulated is the following statement: in the sphere of goals (values) “Solidarity” expressed the opinions of the majority of the society, whereas in the sphere of the means which were put forward the suggestions of the association were not met with considerable approval and one may claim that a great part of the society did not support the institutional solutions which were put forward. The final part of the article also indicates the problems which are associated with the functioning of democracy within the association itself.
