Abstract

THE FULL-SCALE ARMED CONFLICT IN UKRAINE AS A  CHALLENGE FOR ACADEMIC MILITARY EDUCATION IN POLAND

The article presents a general assessment of the current state of higher military education in Poland (five military academies). The main purpose of the study was to identify challenges for academic military education in Poland and to propose changes that should be made to improve the situation in the aspect of using experiences from the armed conflict in Ukraine. The study presents, among others: the needs of the Polish Armed Forces in terms of the supply of officer staff; main goals and profiles of education at military universities; challenges facing military universities, competences of management and teaching staff; inappropriate proportions between the number of full-time civilian and military students; problems regarding educational programs, teaching and social infrastructure; and recommendations for systemic changes in the aspect of using experiences from the armed conflict in Ukraine. The author used the methods of analyzing the literature and normative documents, observing phenomena and processes in PME, and comparing and synthesizing research results. The article indicates the solution to the main research problem by formulating the recommendations regarding the directions of changes and systemic reform that should be carried out in higher military education in Poland so that it meets Allied standards and allows for the preparation of Polish Army officers at an optimal level. The chapter may be of interest to decision-makers of the Ministry of Defense, researchers of international and national security, and research workers (teachers and students) of military and civilian universities dealing with professional military education.
