MARIAN HENRYK ANTONI ZACHERT (1894-1944) – AN OUTSTANDING TRACHOMA EXPERT AND ORGANIZER OF THE TRACHOMA TREATMENT SYSTEM IN POLAND
The article presents the biography and scientific achievements of the Polish ophthalmologist Marian Zachert (1894-1944). Zachert was an assistant at the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. In 1924 he presented a description of the electromagnet he had improved. He was an eminent expert on trachoma and the editor of “Przegląd Trachomatologii i Okulistyki Społecznej”. He was a Rockefeller Foundation scholarship holder. He organized a system of centers diagnosing and treating trachoma in Poland. He was a member of the Home Army and was murdered together with his wife during the Warsaw Uprising.
