MACHINE TRANSLATION OF LITERATURE FROM SWEDISH INTO POLISH: AN ANALYSIS OF ERRORS BASED ON BEA UUSMA’S BOOK EXPEDITIONEN. MIN KÄRLEKSHISTORIA AND ITS TRANSLATION BY JUSTYNA CZECHOWSKA
The aim of this article is to analyze errors occurring in the machine translation of Bea Uusma’s novel Expeditionen: min kärlekshistoria produced by the DeepL Pro neural machine translation engine and to propose changes in training MT engines and post-editing machine-translated texts. The author employs the DQF-MQM typology to classify the errors.The analysis leads to the conclusion that the accumulation of translation and stylistic errors distorts the meaning of the text and hinders its reception. Finally, the article presents recommendations for improving MT quality as well as potential directions for research, including a comparison of translations of different literary genres or translations made by different machine translation engines.
