THE STYLE AND STRATEGY OF ELECTORAL COMMUNICATION IN THE CAMPAIGN SPEECHES OF JAROSŁAW KACZYŃSKI AND DONALD TUSK FROM A QUANTITATIVE PERSPECTIVE
The article presents a quantitative analysis of the differences in the communication styles of two influential Polish politicians, Jarosław Kaczyński and Donald Tusk, during the 2023 election campaign. The study is based on the analysis of a corpus of speeches by both politicians, which were automatically transcribed and grammatically annotated, as well as enriched with metadata. The analysis employed the key feature analysis method suggested by Biber and Egbert, which is a simplified version of the so-called multidimensional analysis. The study utilised grammatical, lexical, and syntactic features, as well as full-text measures of syntactic complexity and lexical richness. The results of the study show how both politicians construct their speeches, how they address their audiences, how they refer to each other, and how they attempt to attract the attention of voters.
