PROCEEDINGS OF THE KRAKÓW KOŚCIUSZKO MOUND COMMITTEE FROM 24 APRIL 2018 TILL 26 MARCH 2019
The main task of the Committee is to take care of the symbolic Kościuszko Grave. The Mound as a geotechnical structure is monitored by devices installed inside, and the data is collected electronically. The project of renovation and stabilisation of the Mound is being prepared. The adaptation of Bastion V for the purposes of the permanent exhibition “Kościuszko – the Still Needed Hero”, financed by the Social Committee for the Restoration of Monuments of Kraków (SKOZK) and the Małopolska Region Marshal’s Office, was underway. It should be emphasised that the renovation project took into account the needs of people with physical disabilities. In 2018, 169,674 people visited the Mound (21,968 more than in the previous year). During the 100th anniversary year of Poland’s regaining independence, the Mound was a venue for many patriotic events. A number of important events took place in the exhibition and conference centre and on the Mound, such as an away meeting of the Architecturae Militaris Committee of the Polish National Committee ICOMOS; the 6th Conference of Youth Patriotic Education; the Surveyor’s Day entitled “We Traversed Independent Poland”; the oathtaking ceremony for first year students at the Adam Mickiewicz 4th Lyceum in Warsaw; scouting workshops of the Command of the Polish Scouting Association’s Kraków Region; expedition to the Mound of the disabled wards of Anna Dymna’s Foundation “Mimo Wszystko” (Despite Everything). On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the funeral of Tadeusz Kościuszko in Kraków, the Committee funded a memorial plaque on the wall of St. Florian’s Collegiate Church. The Committee’s representation also participated in the annual celebrations of the outbreak of the Kościuszko Uprising (24 March). In addition, efforts were made to purchase the Kościuszko Book Collection from the Tadeusz Kościuszko Foundation in Kraków. With the 200th anniversary of the Committee in mind, preparatory work began on a biographical dictionary of Committee members in 1820–2020. Director of the Committee’s Office and its President participated in the “Magna Res Libertas: Towards Independent Poland” conference organized by the Polish Museum in Rapperswil. The President also represented the Committee at other patriotic events in Poland and abroad.
